Background
In Media Exchange International (MEI) approached QuaTeams about developing a prototype video streaming application that could be used both over the web or from fixed computer Kiosks. The application would showcase their customers' video assets which included broadcast quality music videos, historical videos and training tapes. The application had to be flexible. The look and feel would be would be re-branded for each customer and depending on the customer's needs different functionality should be enabled when deployed. The application had to allow users to create music in play-lists for the "video jukebox" functionality while having powerful search functionality available for education and kiosk purposes.

Solution
After the customer's needs were established, QuaTeams continued to work with the customer on an External Design Specification for the prototype. For technical details we consulted with engineers from the Quicktime group at Apple. The system made use of QuaTeams powerful Java component platform (referred to as: Quagga), a relational database, and proprietary streaming server modifications. The resulting system supported a wide range of bandwidths from 28.8 to near-broadcast quality streams, while supporting several different formats including Quicktime and RealVideo. Akamai provided the distributed network for the content. QuaTeams oversaw the integration of MEI's servers within Akamai. The resulting system could easily be administered over the web and/or legacy media databases. The administration pages allowed content to be added and removed, marketing data to be collected, and new promotions and advertising space to be configured.

Result
The resulting system was well received by MEI and their customers.
