The ItinerX security system consists of a software application  set that resides on a Server and another software application set that resides on a Client removable memory device. Each of these components has an embedded suite of security services. In some cases these services may operate independently and in others both the Server and client components must be present.

The ItinerX system makes full use of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates and the NIST certified 256-bit AES encryption algorithm. Digital signature is used on the ItinerX software. The picture depicts the elements of the ItinerX security system and its primary security features.
