QuaTeams, Inc. is a Hubzone certified custom software applications developer, based in College Park , Maryland. QuaTeams was founded by Jim Humphries in 1998. At the time Humphries was a Team Leader at the University of Maryland; Jim loved his day job, which consisted of designing and managing solutions that utilized supercomputers at the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) and other institutions. The new company drew from his expertise and knack for applying highly motivated and effective IT teams but was somewhat different from his day job.

But when asked if diving into demanding corporate IT projects was a shock, Humphries gives a surprising answer: “Sometimes designing and supporting solutions for business required a different approach than say deploying new features in interactive data management solutions for Earth Scientists but the engineering processes were pretty much the same and particularly for the large projects team work and engineering process was always key. Also, about half of my team at the University was dedicated to support and maintenance and uptime has been a driving consideration then and now, so that hasn't changed.”

Using Jim's team approach an effective engineering process, and an effective (if time consuming) approach to customer service that business pundits call “customer intimate”, QuaTeams Inc has tallied up happy customers one after the other: National Geographic, Peace Corps, Bacardi, Howard University, Children's Wear Digest, and Titan Corporation and others .
